Jane Osborne seems to have a perfect life--successful surgeon husband, well-adjusted 12-year-old daughter, fulfilling volunteer work, great relationships with her mother and sister--but it's all a lie. Her marriage is a sham. Her husband is gay but not out, because he fears ruining his career. Her daughter keeps getting into trouble at her private school. Her volunteer work is a boring drag, and some of it (like planning an important hospital fundraiser) is expected because of whom she's married to, which she resents. Her mother often doesn't know who she is, and her sister always needs money. One day, it all becomes too much, and Jane snaps. Her public breakdown and resulting arrest land her in a course for first-offenders. As Jane interacts with the other women in her class and spends time with the officer who handled her case, she begins to reevaluate her life. VERDICT Crandell's (The Jake Ryan Complex) second adult novel is a fast-paced, thought-provoking, often humorous look at the choices we make and their effects on us and the people we care about. For fans of women's fiction focusing on self-worth and family.--Samantha Gust, Niagara Univ. Lib., NY

Crandell has created a believable, timely novel that readers will enjoy from the very first page. Jane does it all: she chairs the PTA at the private school her daughter attends, and serves on the hospital planning committee where her handsome husband Dan works. Her life is nearly perfect, or so it seems--her impeccable little life is cracking at the foundation and so is Jane. Dan is living a double life and is in love with a man. For the sake of their livelihood, Jane has to stay in the marriage and maintain the façade. The hospital Dan works at is in need of a hefty amount of money and it's up to them to schmooze the ultra-conservative donors to give their hospital the money needed. Meanwhile, Jane's resentment and anger grow each day, and after a few poor choices and an arrest, Jane is forced to face her fears and anger once and for all. See Jane Snap is engaging and witty and readers will undoubtedly empathize with Jane's stressful life. Fans of Lisa Daily and Emily Adrian will enjoy Crandell's newest novel.
